MILAGROS !!!

So I don’t have that much time because we came to the family history center late.   But thank you soo much for your letters!   I loved reading your letters!   They’re the best!   Okay so miracle that happened … The guy that a I spoke about last week and how he had a dream and that an angel visited him … well that guy is getting BAPTIZED this Sunday!!!   He’s super golden!   On church in the Gospel Principles class he invited everybody to his baptism!   He’s awesome.   Another miracle that happened …   A family came to church …  but not just an ordinary family  …  it was a part member family!!!   I never saw them before and when they came in the church they looked lost so I showed them where to go and I got their names.   I supposed that they were one of the Elder’s investigators or something but we realized that mother is the member and her family are not.!    BUT the good thing is  …  THEY ALL WANT TO GET BAPTIZED!!!!   WHAT!?!?!   The Sunday that just passed was probably one of the BEST Sundays on the mission that I ever had.   Another person came to church and we taught her yesterday.   She’s not a member.   She liked church a lot.   She said yes to baptism but she didn’t commit to a date.   I’m realizing more and more of how soo much that we don’t do as missionaries.   It’s all the spirit.   We are literally tour guides on their path back to Heavenly Father.   I’m soo happy that I’m an instrument in the hands of the Lord.   It’s a crazy legit experience. Love being a missionary! 🙂

Love you all forever!

… among so many …

Buenos dias!   Thanks to all of you for all of the wonderful emails all of you have sent to me.   I truly appreciate it!   So, first things first.   I’m happy to announce that the Chicago Illinois Mission is the 9th mission in the world to be using Facebook!   I was actually super excited before they announced it, just dreaming that maybe one day our mission will get there.   So it came.   They told us the rules.   I’ve been stressed ever since.   There are so many boundaries we just can’t cross.   BUT!   I wanted to look at the bright side of it.   This is Facebook and since it will be SO darn easy to cross the line — if we stayed exactly obedient, the Lord will bless us tremendously!   Which is exactly what missionaries need.   I truly believe that one of the reasons Heavenly Father is allowing His missionaries to us FB is so He can bless us more.   Makes sense, yeah? 🙂   So I believe it was Elder Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve that said something to the effect of that Satan has had a hold on the cyber world for far too long, and this is our way of taking it back.   I loved that he said that because our mission has been hearing a lot of how other missions before us have been have great success in using it.   Success tripled.   So we’re pretty stoked.

Something cool I learned was what Hermana Boushka learned yesterday in personal study.   She was reading in the New Testament the story of when Christ and His apostles only had two small fishes and five loaves of bread.   They had to feed the five thousand.   Andrew says, “What are they among so many?”  ‘They’, meaning the little food.   Now we all know that these five thousand were filled and what a miraculous thing.   There are eighty thousand missionaries out in the world.   But who are we among so many? 🙂

Love Always,

I may not understand everything but I know God does.

We had Zone Conference this week and it was a very good conference.   The funny thing was is that the night the before I pray for something specific to learn at zone conference that I needed to work on as a missionary.   So it was literally the things that were super specific for me!   It was like a smack in the face.   haha.   But the fact that it was super specific for me made me realize that God really does listen and hear our prayers.   He’s there and I know that He wants the best for us. 🙂
We also spoke at a Young Women in Excellence.  It was soo nice to talk to them.   I love talking to the youth.   The youth are very strong.
Oh okay sad story…we got dropped by our investigator!
Her husband is against the church and right now he doesn’t really believe in God.   He didn’t allow her to go to church either. Poopy!   But we still had lessons with her though and she was progressing!   She was reading and praying and everything!   She loved it!   She’s the one that agreed to baptism on the first lesson and she had a date too for baptism.   She accepted everything willingly without complaint!   But since her husband is not with it she can’t progress and be baptized!   It was soo sad.   Her eyes got shiny when she was talking to us.   Then I was like, “that is soo not fair to her”.   She is being held back of all the blessings of heaven. Then I thought of the Atonement and how all the wrongs will be made right.   Also that EVERYTHING unfair in this life will be made right through the Atonement.   I may not understand everything but I know God does.   Maybe it’s not her time yet.   I just have to trust in God and know that everything will be okay.
The mission goal is 2 baptisms per month  and so in a year that would equal 3000 baptisms a year.   I thought that this was wayyy too high but then when we started talking about it and now I know that it’s completely possible and inspired.   We were struggling to find the people who we could baptize this month and then I promise you that these people came out of nowhere! We had a lesson with people that were  soo hard to get a hold of and before.    Like in and out about the meeting with us.   So we stopped going there and then we had a visit with them and we started teaching them. Miracle!
Next miracle, a son of a member came to church and wants to be baptized!   He said that he had a dream and an angel visited him or something like that…he didn’t finish the story, but he felt the impression that he should come to church.   He really liked it and he said the closing prayer in Gospel Principles class!   yeahh buddy!
So many good things happening in the Utah Ogden Mission!   So grateful to be a missionary at this time. it’s the BEST!!
I love you all!! Thank you for you emails and love.God is Good. God is Real.

Line upon line, precept upon precept.

Oh, the miracles and the blessings and the happiness and the bliss of being a missionary 🙂   Some people think that going home sounds good.   And it always does, don’t get me wrong.   But there’s no happiness you can get from anyone or anything else than being out here teaching.   It truly is a blessing.   I told President in an interview this past week that being on a mission is my blessing. It truly is.
So one of the lessons that we taught last week was a lady named J___.   We stopped to talk to her one day as we were walking in Chicago Heights a couple of weeks ago.   We stopped by her home and taught her the Restoration.   We had her read the First Vision scripture and she was pretty impressed by it.   We asked her how she felt and she said reading it gave her chills.   Hermana Boushka and I hit each other on the lap under the table when she had said that haha.   Her reaction to the First Vision was probably the best reaction I had seen if not one of.   And I knew it was because it hit her soul.   There’s so much more to say about her but bottom line:  She’s golden.
Something interesting that I learned on Sunday was said by the RS President in my branch.   We were talking about member and missionary work.   It was the topic of the day. Hermana Colon said, “The gospel is for those who are strong. You live it and it’ll lift you and make you stronger.”   I really thought about what she said right after she had said it and I thought about the members back home.   Those living the gospel really are strong.   And it’s really because they KNOW.   They’ve got testimonies and are fully aware of the reward after this life.   What a blessing it is to have this knowledge to live the gospel and it’ll only make you stronger.   In personal study this morning I took the whole hour to study about knowledge, one of the attributes of Christ.   I learned that not only is it an attribute of our Savior, but it’s also ESSENTIAL is obtaining salvation, and it is a LAW.   The greater knowledge we gain, the more of an advantage we have in the next life.   The advantage:  Being God’s and Goddesses.   Now knowledge isn’t obviously obtained all at once (and I’m talking about knowledge of the gospel).   It’s taken line upon line, precept upon precept.   Learning this reminded me of something that I learned from President Woodbury.   He said, “We all know how to be a better missionary [or in some cases just better people].   Our purpose is to reach that level that we know and then the Lord will reveal more to us.” Absolutely nobody will be saved in ignorance of the gospel.   “One progresses only as fast as he gains knowledge.”   But don’t run faster than your capable of.   Line upon line, precept upon precept.
Love Always,

I feel my Savior’s love …

Soo I would first like to say that I’m soo grateful that the Hunsaker’s and the Whitney’s were able to finally meet at last! I was hoping that I would be able to see you all but I guess it wasn’t in the Lord’s will. It would have been a sweet tender mercy though. haha but it will just make the reunion even more sweet. 🙂

Okay soo I went to the Saturday sessions of conference! The first time ever that I went inside the conference center for conference! It was super special for me and I loved it! A whole bunch of missionaries went from the mission. We just have to bring an investigator, less active, or recent convert. We didn’t have tickets for the Saturday afternoon but a nice, kind, sweet lady gave us tickets and we got it! 😀 Woot woot! Powerful messages in conference! I felt the spirit very strongly. The church is true! What can I say more?
Okay so the first lesson that we used with the iPads was last night for a FHE. We showed a Bible video, “He is Risen” and talked all about Jesus Christ and of course the spirit was bearing witness. The FHE was with a less active/part member family.  I love that family so much! There was a sweet spirit in the room. More than ever in my life, I internalizing the sacrament and what it really means to me. It hit me during the lesson and I was about to cry. Because the bread is the body. The body that was beaten, bruised, and tortured for us. The water is the blood that shed from every pore. I know that this is stuff that we all know. But it really, really hit me. It was a special moment I had personally in the lesson. I can’t really describe it.
I felt that this had probably been the best conference that had experienced. I received a feeling and the feeling was…”I’m soo happy right now! I fell the spirit very strongly! Everybody needs to have this in their life!” It made me want to be a better missionary because I soo strongly want this for everyone.
I feel my Savior’s love. I love you all! Thank you for your letters. They make me smile and laugh at times. Thank you for your support!
Love you always and forever,
Hermana Whitney

Mis queridos! First off, I am incredibly jealous that my parents spent a whole bunch of time with the Hunsaker’s!….  Without the people that even brought them together (Me and Whit)! Who woulda think?  Haha it really, truly brings joy to my soul that these two families came together at such a wonderful time of the year..  Conference weekend! Yeahhh buddy.

So a miracle happened yesterday!   Hermana Boushka and I broke a bad streak.   This is the 4th transfer that this area has been opened and ever since its been opened there has never been an investigator come to church.   Our investigator MF came to church yesterday with the help of some wonderful dear members. On top of that he was able to see a baptism that the Elders in our branch had and we ate right afterwards so he met many of our members. I was just so happy for this guy.

So some funny moments:

It was down pouring on Saturday and we had about an hour left to work that night. We decided to give one of our investigators and English BOM so she can better comprehend what the scriptures are trying to say if she had Espanol and English bc she can speak both.   Needless to say, we got caught in the rain trying to run to her apt.   We sprinted our lives away (I always wonder what it’s like from someone else’s point of view seeing two young ladies SPRINTING in the rain in dresses and little heels sometimes.   My guess: doeeeeeesn’t look very lady like). This is like the 4th time on my mission this has happened. I’m really genius when it comes to when I think I should be outside to get caught in the rain..  I think I got it down to a science to whennnnn exactly it’ll down pour.

Hermana Boushka and I stopped at Walmart later that night to buy a birthday gift for a baby that turned 1 yesterday,   We bought the cutest little outfit with polka dots!   I just love polka dots.   As we’re heading to the register we see a whole bunch of these really cool t-shirts that we fell in love with.   We bought matching t-shirts with Abe Lincoln holding up a boombox saying, “Drop beats, not bombs.”   Later that night we’re wearing them to go to bed and as we’re sitting in the bathroom talking Hermana Boushka points out that our t-shirts don’t make sense.   She laughs and says, “There were no bombs in the Civil War!”   WE DIED LAUGHING.   It was the funniest thing.   Still love those shirts though! 😀

You guys, this gospel is so true.   My Savior loves me.   There’s so much that I’ve learned from Conference.   One thing that I loved: “The Lord can’t look upon sin with the least degree of allowance because He knows what it takes to be like Him.” -Elder Richard G. Scott.

I love the mission.   I love my Savior.   I love repentance.   I love the Atonement.   I love this crazy thing called life and all the ups and downs we all face when chuggin through.   It’s simply beautiful.   I’m so grateful for blessings like conference and for the realizations I had.   The Lord is very old school.   He likes it that way and that’s why there are so many things to be learned from the past.   Another beautiful thing.

Les quiero muchisimo. Muchas gracias por su suporta que yo he tenido en mi mision. Yo doy gracias a mi Padre Celestial cada dia por ustedes, mi familia ❤

With Love,

Hermana E. Whitney

God is real!!! God is good!!!

Mi querido familia!  It has been a BOMB week…i feel like I say that about every week…but it’s true, even though it’s hard and all…all you have to do is to count your blessings and see the miracles. 🙂

Okay so first off…  I”M STAYING IN OGDEN!! Woot woot!! And the thing that makes it even better is that I”M STAYING WITH ARNELL!!!   My greenie is not going to have a greenie buster yet! hahaha.   She’s still a greenie! haha jk.   But we found out and we literally jumped for joy!!   hahaha.   The work is picking up again.   We’re teaching better,  working harder, and smarter!   Yeahh Buddy!
Also…the mission got iPADS minis!!   WHAT!?!?!  We are the 3rd mission out of 405 missions to get them!   I love these little things. Everything is digital!   So we’re getting rid of the planners and the AREA BOOK and putting it all on the iPads.   We also get everything on it like the pamphlets, videos, talks, scriptures.   They are super duper handy during lessons!!   I LOVE them!   The Lord is really hastening is work, can get a AMEN!?   Amen.
D&C 88:73
Behold, I will hasten my work in its time.  It’s amazing to see the prophesies coming to pass 🙂  God is Real! God is Good!
Okay so our investigator came to church!!   After soo long of her not coming!  She brought her daughter and her mom, who is less active. She gave herself the date for her baptism! 😀   (that hardly ever happens btw).   She is soon to be married.   We were almost about to drop her and then out of no where she started progressing.   Miracle! really, truly a miracle!
Ooh, funny story…our investigator that we dropped, spoke in sacrament meeting and gave a talk! (that never happens either!) haha the only reason she came and spoke in church because her son is going on a mission and they wanted her to say a couple a words about it.   There were 2 farewells of 2 men.   So a tradition in the Buenaventura ward is that whenever there’s a farewell for a missionary, all the people who served, serving, and are going to serve missions all sing Called to Serve for the intermediate hymn. it’s cute, have to say. 🙂 and in spanish the song have 4 verses.  Sometimes I feel that we are longer up there than we should be. haha. pero esta bien. 🙂
Okay so I’ve been watching the Bible videos and I absolutely LOVE them!   The actor that plays Jesus is my favorite actor for Jesus Christ!!   They chose well. I suggest that you all watch them…they’re pretty legit.   The spirit is super strong when I watched them.
I love you all! Everyday, my testimony is growing firmer and deeper of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   I love him.   He gave all He had.   Always remember that everyone is Child of God because that’s who we are, that’s our divine nature.
Stay strong! Keep the Faith!

Buenos dias everybody! I want to thank everyone for their wonderful emails sent to me.  You guys put some strength in me to keep on keepin on 🙂  So thank you.

I just want to say first off I really love my companion, Hermana Boushka.  I’m training her and this is her first transfer out.  Just a couple of days ago we realized that we were praying for each other for a long time, long before we had even met and we have been just a huge blessing to each other and for that I am so grateful.

We had such a wonderful week teaching in allies and all 🙂  Lots of great experiences finding people and placing Books of Mormon.  You know, the life.  This past week we stopped at an investigator’s home to visit her.  She’s the 15 year old I wrote about last week that had FAR TOO MANY things to be going through at her age.   We asked her if she had been reading and she said that she had.   Now something that she told us when we first met her was that she cries every single night before she falls asleep and it’s because of the hard life that she has.   But she told us this past week that she has been reading The Book of Mormon every night before she sleeps and since she’s been reading she hasn’t cried herself to sleep!   I can’t tell you how happy I was for her.   Such a beautiful thing to hear her say it too with a beautiful smile!

There was something that I learned a few weeks ago from my mission president that he told us trainers to always remember.   We were reading the white handbook (I call it the rule book) and we had read in DC 121:41-46. Read it right now!   But keep in mind that Joseph Smith had written these words while he was in Liberty Jail.   The Mormons were in Nauvoo being kicked out of there and that was including his own family.   There were even children that walked in the snow with no shoes.   It killed the Prophet Joseph to know this and I’m sure he wanted to be there with his family, but there was the love of God still in his heart that made him write this scripture and blessed MANY.   It put a lot more meaning in that scripture for me to know that background story.
Another thing. We all know that all we have is God’s.   Our families are His.   Our lives are His.   Everything we possess are His.   There’s only one thing that He doesn’t have a hold of and that’s our agency.   That’s the one thing and the most important thing we can have in this life.   How wonderful of a gift that is and to have a living prophet, the church, The Book of Mormon, temples, our beautiful families, and so many more wonderful things to help us out. That we forget that this life is even a test.   My God is a God.
Love Always,
Hermana Eishelle Whitney

Missionaries cannot do the work without the members …

Okay, sad story we dropped like 4 of our investigators in the past 2 weeks.  They were not progressing at all like with their commitments and appointments even.  The thing is that I loved these investigators.  They were all progressing in they’re own way but they all just stopped. 😦
Right now I feel that we’re working really hard but nothing is happening with our investigators.  We are doing everything that we are supposed to do and….nothing.   But I feel that God is preparing us for something soo much bigger. 🙂  It’s coming…I feel it 🙂  All is good in the Utah Ogden Mission. 🙂
This is the last week for this transfer.  Rumor has it that I’m being transferred out.   I don’t know where I’m going but I’ll find out next week.  Hey so next Wednesday…i thought you all should know that from that date Christmas is in 12 weeks!  WHAT!?!?!  Crazy stuff!!   Our transfer day is on Christmas!
Sister Arnell and I are literally BESTIES!!!   We have the same sense of humor and almost the same story like growing up wise.   I love her soo much!   We’re growing together!   That’s how you have to grow bc we can’t do this without each other.    We die everyday and yesterday we DIED laughing in the middle of the road and a car was coming but I got back to my senses and we got out of the road and then laughed even harder!   No worries the car wasn’t that close to us so everything was good.   I bet that people look at us and think like, “those CRAZY girls!” haha.  True story.
Even though we’re going through a low with our investigators, I’m experiencing a high with my companion.   We’re becoming closer as time goes on.   There are soo many blessings when we just start thinking about it.   Learning everyday.
Ooh I gave a talk in sacrament meeting! It went well.   It was funny bc Sister Arnell took up all the time so I was literally up there for about 4 minutes.    Short, sweet, to the point.  Just the way I like it! 🙂    I talked about the importance of members in the missionary work.   Missionaries seriously cannot do the work without you.   I talked about how in an orchestra every instrument is important, no matter how big or small it is.   Also how like in a sport”s team, everybody has a different purpose but all important to win the game.   And how it’s the same here.   Everybody has talents and skills that are important to the greatest work on earth … which is Missionary Work.
I know that Jesus is the Christ.   He lived and died for us.   Everybody has the responsibility to share the gospel because we are members of the church and also because it’s THAT IMPORTANT! It’s just people’s salvation…
Stay Strong! Stay Fly! Stay Beautiful!
Loving you always,

Blessings left and right !!!

Hello everyone!  I just can’t wait til I tell you guys what happened this past week.  Well, to be honest it was pretty much a blur and it went super fast!  But here it goes..

I had a district leader in my first area tell me that “When you have a set appointment and it falls through, then there’s someone else on that street that needs to hear your message.”  Hermana Boushka and I were in the car for a few minutes since we had made it to M___ street just a bit earlier than our set appointment.  As we waited there was a teenage black girl waiting outside looking for someone with the cutest little boy by her side eating the crumbs of a cereal bag that was taken out of the box.  She saw us looking at her, we saw her looking at us.  Hermana Boushka and I actually admired her jeans.  We said a prayer, walked down a few homes down the street and right before we were going to knock on M___ door, this girl that we had seen earlier who lives two houses down says that she wasn’t home at the time and that we had just missed them.   As we walk down the steps of this home she says, “Who are you guys?”   And that’s where it all started.   We talked with her for an hour.    Her name’s K___and she’s 15 years old.   She has a tough life and has way to much to worry about for a girl her age to say the least.   Everything that could possibly go wrong in her life went wrong and is wrong.   The life out here isn’t the life she wants.   She’s super smart and could have a lot ahead of her.   Schools aren’t all that great out here which makes it hard for her to learn.   She’s thought of so many times of just running away from the life she has.   But then she thinks, “Where would I go?   Who would I be?”   We gave her a Book of Mormon and she honestly believed that it would bless her life, she said so and I could it in her eyes.   Such hope in her eyes as she looked at the book in her hands.   She couldn’t help but smile because it was something that gave her hope.   My heart just melted as we taught her.

Hermana C___ is a member that Hermana Russon and I enjoyed having the one time that she came out to teach with us.   We didn’t teach anyone that one day because appointments fell through but she was just such a joy and miracles happened that wouldn’t had happened had she not been with us.   We decided to take her out again with us 🙂   She’s an older lady probably in her 70’s and such an angel.   In order to know of the biggest miracle from yesterday, you would have to know the background story and it all started on Saturday night… I spoke to Sister Woodbury (President’s wife) on the phone that night and she said she wanted to come by and drop off the jackets that I had left at transfers this past week.   She said she and President would be at the apartment around 5pm on Sunday.   Hermana Boushka and I had to eat and do studies and so we’d be done by 5 and thought it’d be perfect since we told Hermana Castillo we’d at her place closer to 6 to pick her up (and it takes about 45 mins to drive to her place).   We waited about 15 mins more for the Woodbury’s to either call or arrive and we hadn’t heard anything by 5:15pm.   Right as we folded our arms-, they call.   We concluded with them giving my jackets to the Elders and we’d pick it up later.   We left and headed to Hermana C___ in Hammond and then off to Chicago Heights which is about a half hour from Hammond.   Our first set appointment fell through.   Then we decided to go visit a less active member (which is initially why she asked if she could come out with us and see him again).   We got out of the car and there was a Hispanic woman walking to and from this one house.   I greeted her and she couldn’t stop looking at us.   She walked up to us and asked us if we were church people.   We all know what we said to that one 😉   She said that she’s very sick and her son is making it hard for her because he’s tried to commit suicide and is facing depression.   She asked us to talk with him and to follow her to the car.   G___, 13 year old boy was sitting in the back seat of the SUV.   Hermana C___ opened the door and he said he didn’t feel like talking right now while trying to close it on her but she insisted.   Hermana C___ is very wise and shared her words of wisdom with him in the most loving way I had ever seen from an old lady to a young boy just barely met.   “Ask Him with all of your heart if He loves you!   And be grateful for your eyes!   Be grateful for your hands that you can touch!”   It wasn’t just a reminder for him, but I can honestly say it was a reminder for me too.   She said to him, “Don’t hurt you mother.   She’s sick.   Children give parents EVERY REASON to live.”   His mother was broken hearted and cried but so grateful that she had found us.   There was a possibility that we could’ve missed her.. even by seconds!   There was a reason we left home a few minutes later than planned and just small things like that.   Hermana Boushka and I shared a few words with him and gave him a Book of Mormon as well.   He may not have appreciated what we shared with him at the moment but I know he’ll definitely remember.

This past week I’ve realized how grateful I should be for what I have and have had.   I sometimes think I had it easy growing up compared to others.   I think ‘why’ sometimes but immediately just think to myself, ‘just be grateful’.   My heart breaks seeing these young kids like this and there are other much bigger things that the Lord has put right in front of me to realize what a blessing my family has been to me literally just minutes after really starting out in the field.   There are blessing left and right, we just have to count them.

Love Always,

Hermana E. Whitney
